The goal of Instrumental Polymer Technology is to develop polymers that help our world transition from dependence on petroleum feedstock to organic based raw materials. Our polycarbonate polyols use raw materials which currently are, or can be, derived from carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide and organic derived alcohols, sugars, and esters.
Instrumental Polymer Technologies, LLC (IP TECH) is a privately held company based in Los Angeles, California which is active in the research, development, production and sales of aliphatic polycarbonate polyols for use in polyurethane formulations. We are the first company to supply branched aliphatic polycarbonates to this market, providing a new standard in urethane performance.
We are also at the forefront of bringing nanotechnology, and in particular, dendrimeric polymers to the broad markets such as coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers (CASE). We use a proprietary natural growth process to produce dendrimeric polycarbonate polyols at low cost.

QUICKSTAR™ – DENDRIMERIC POLYCARBONATE POLYOLS
We grew from the need for new high performance polyols to meet tightening EPA regulations within the aviation coatings market. Standard polyester and acrylic polyols were limited in performance and fluoronated polyols were too expensive. We launched polycarbonate polyols to achieve extreme performance at a reasonable cost. We have since then broadened our product line to meet specific needs of other urethane coatings markets including marine, automotive, leather and general industrial. Our linear and branched polycarbonate polyols are now marketed under the trade name PACAPOL™ . These polyols have been in production for thirteen years.
Our experience in synthesizing branched polycarbonate polyols led us to a proprietary process for producing polycarbonate polyols with dendrimeric shape. Though they were initially designed for use in the CASE markets, their unique characteristics are finding applications in such broad areas as fragrance release, drug release and microelectronics. Our work in this area is supported from the National Science Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency. These products are now marketed under the trade name QUICKSTAR™ , which references their quick and easy synthesis. These dendrimeric polyols have been in production for seven years.
All of our polycarbonate polyols of IP TECH were designed with the environment in mind. Firstly, their high performance means greater longevity and less repair to the material system. Secondly, the polycarbonate polyols of IP TECH were designed for low volatile organic component ( low VOC) systems. Their ability to form urethane coatings with excellent adhesion also enables the formulation of primerless systems. Lastly, unlike polyester, acrylic or fluorinated polyols, the raw materials of IP TECH polycarbonate polyols can be renewably sourced. We feel this fact will ultimately lead to these products to being very cost effective as oil prices continue to escalate.
